
Flickr has a bit of an identity crisis

I am still a little bemused at Flickr deciding to go into video. This is the site that is supposed to be THE photography site (as in photographs) but now it is accepting video? Does anyone else see a problem with that or is it only me?
Mashable got itself all worked up, saying that the move would get your “creative juices flowing” (yuk). With a 90 second time limit, there isn’t really much room to be creative.
Why do websites feel the need to break away from their core identity and do things that they don’t have to do? They all do it eventually. Why couldn’t Flickr just stay a photography site? They were doing just fine as they were. From what I hear online, there’s a lot of serious photographers who use Flickr who are definately NOT happy at the video move.
** UPDATE ** It seems there is a “No Video on Flickr” group on Flickr. Ha! Ha! The question is, is Flickr going to respond to anything said on this group or are they just going to “do an eBay” and ignore it?
