Twitter seems to be going from strength to strength and web developers are coming up with even more innovative ideas for Twitter web programs and software tools. Here’s what I have found recently.

British regulators OK cell phones in planes

One of the final hurdles preventing Europeans from talking on their cell phones while flying through European airspace has been cleared.
I can’t say that I am thrilled by the prospect of getting on a plane and having to listen to the other passengers talking loudly on their phones but the following questions immediately to mind (call them practical difficulties if you will) :
1) What telephone network will you be using if you’re up in the sky? Will you be bounced from network to network as the plane flies at top speed across Europe? If so, what does that do to the quality of the call? Will you be able to hear the other person over the noise of the plane engines?
2) More importantly, what does that do to the COST of the call? Would the call be considered a national call? An international call? If you suddenly get bounced to another mobile phone network, do you get surcharged? If the plane crosses a border, what then? Will you get a huge bill for calling your mum?

German restaurant replaces waiters with serving tracks

A restaurant in Nuremberg, Germany has replaced waiters with hi-tech tracks that whiz food down to the customers, and you order your food by computer. While you’re waiting for your food, you can browse the net or send a SMS.
The part I particularly like though is the fact you don’t have to leave a tip!

Is Ubuntu becoming the generic Linux distro?

Has anyone else noticed an increasing number of Linux newbies who seem to think that Ubuntu is Linux and Linux is Ubuntu? Over the past year or so I’ve noticed an increasing number of newbies interested in taking Linux for a spin - for example, the number or emails I’m getting on the subject from zero a year ago to several dozen a week.

Man divorces 2 wives in 3 minutes

Judge Wan Abdul Malik said this was the first time in the court’s history that two wives had sought a divorce at the same time. Outside the court, the man said he felt sad to be separated from his wives whom he claimed had asked him for the divorce.

The work by German photographer Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta, who recorded revealing interviews with the subjects in their final days, reveals much about dying - and living. This is something that will stay in your mind for a long time.

Google Talk goes green

Google Talk has rolled out a chat bot to translate your IM messages into “instant message-speak”. I personally would never use it and it gives me a migraine to see and hear people talk like this. But I guess everyone is different.
