Del.ishli.st one service too far?
I try not to be a materialistic person but nevertheless there are some things I really want to have - in the main books and stamps (both of which I collect avidly). I often keep lists on the computer of what I am looking for but these lists tend to be a bit messed up. What I really want is a central point where it can all be collected, organised, deleted, added and looked at.
Del.ishli.st is based upon Del.icio.us (what the hell is going on with these dots invading Web 2.0 application names?). How Del.ishli.st works is quite simple. Just enter an item you would like on your del.icio.us account, tag it “wishlist” and then go to http://del.ishli.st/USERNAME (where USERNAME is your del.icio.us username). There’s a wait of up to 15 minutes before the page is updated and then your wishes are displayed for all to see. I experimented with the service here.
But after trying it out, I realised I was better off just opening a new del.icio.us account and storing my wishlist there. Del.ishli.st doesn’t seem to offer anything extra to entice me their way. You can just keep everything on del.icio.us (with a “wishlist” tag) and you can be sure that, under Yahoo ownership, that your wishlists won’t be disappearing anytime soon, unlike Del.ishli.st which might sink under the sea at any minute. Such is the nature of Web 2.0.
At the very least, if they want to get taken seriously, Del.ishli.st needs to speed up their updating. 15 minutes? Come on! 15 minutes in internet terms is a lifetime. Do you know how many sites I can stumble in 15 minutes?
