Want Gmail contacts in Firefox? Disable “Better Gmail”

Thanks to commenter Rounin, I now have my Gmail contacts window up in Firefox.    It seems the sticking point was “Better Gmail“, the Firefox extension brought out by Lifehacker.

Just deactivate the extension (if you have it of course), restart Firefox and try your contacts window again.    It should now work.

But now that I have the contacts window up, I’ve noticed a Firefox extension that no longer works - the Skype extension that turns your phone numbers on the page into clickable links.    I have emailed Skype about this and they have promised to look into it.    But apart from that, Gmail Contacts is now cooking!!!

One feature I am now noticing in the new contacts - the ability to add instant messaging names to someone’s contact profile.     Not just Google Talk but also AIM, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger.     Very useful.
